Why We Chose This Product
- Dermexa Daily Emollient contains similar ingredients to Dermexa Fast & Long-Lasting Balm but comes in a bigger pump dispenser. It is useful as a hydrating moisturiser for larger areas of the body.
- Dermexa contains ceramides. These are natural lipids (oils), that help form the skin’s barrier. Ceramides provide added hydration. They also have an anti-inflammatory effect. A few small studies showed that ceramide containing creams can improve hydration and reduce inflammation in eczema.
- Dermexa contains milled oatmeal, there are some studies that suggests oats can have an anti-inflammatory effect on eczema.
- One study showed that oat creams act as a prebiotic (increases the growth of a good bacteria called S. epidermidis). However more studies are needed in human patients.
- Dermexa also contains tocopherol (vitamin E), an antioxidant that protects the skin.
- Dermexa contains no fragrances or colourings, so it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction (contact allergy) to the skin.
- It's suitable for adults and children including babies (see caution below).
Cautions
- Use of moisturisers in the bath can or shower be a slip hazard
- Moisturisers are flammable. Over long periods moisturisers can build-up on fabric (clothing, bedding etc), making these materials flammable. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce this build-up but not totally remove it.
- Dermexa does contain some preservatives so there is a small risk of allergic reaction. For people with allergy prone skin, ointments such as Epaderm ointment are better. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed.
- Dermexa contains oats. There is a small risk that applying oats to the skin can can an oat allergy. This risk is highest in young children with eczema who aren't regularly eating oats.
